Six Jackson Academy eleventh graders are traveling to a business conference at Harvard University this month. Caroline Johnston, Cameron Benton, Julia Berman, Logan Rohman, Ella Boykin, and Anna Catherine Bennett will attend the Harvard Women in Business BOLD Conference on November 11-12.
“It’s an opportunity for high school girls from around the country to hear from industry leaders in various fields of business and to receive encouragement as student leaders with a possible interest in business,” said JA faculty member Theresa Berman. Berman noted that JA’s counseling office had recommended the conference as a positive experience for girls interested in business and leadership.
Each of the eleventh graders attending is active at JA in various sports, dance, theater, French Club, and community. Cameron Benton is on Accents and Service Club. Julia Berman is the French Club president and runs cross country. Ella Boykin is an Accent and on the softball team. Logan Rohman also plays softball and is in the show choir. Caroline Johnston is on the equestrian team and the theater set crew. Anna Catherine Bennett is a theater set crew member and participates in Young Life.
Harvard Undergraduate Women in Business, a pre-professional business organization of more than 400 Harvard students, sponsors the conference. Harvard’s Science and Engineering Complex on the university’s campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is the site for the event. Harvard University is a private Ivy League research university founded in 1636 as Harvard College.
According to the BOLD conference website, robust two-day programming provides attendees with various presentations, workshops, and panels to develop business, organizational, and communication skills valuable for future endeavors. These events will include industry speakers from beauty, environment/sustainability, entrepreneurship, fashion, finance, hospitality, journalism, marketing, retail, social media, sports, and technology.
