On Friday night at The Brickyard, students and coaches supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month moved through the stands collecting donations for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Throughout Jackson, artists are raising funds to provide accommodations for those going through cancer treatment in the Jackson area. These are two of many initiatives during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The students from Coach Brandt Walker’s sports marketing class and JA athletic staff members carried blue buckets with pink ribbons. A portion of funds from the pink T-shirts sold in JA spirit packages this year also went to National Breast Cancer Foundation.
JA’s own Upper School art teacher, Susan Ingram, is among those who will show original art in support of Hope House at Interiors Market on October 20. As a grateful breast cancer survivor, Ingram says she wants to “give back” this month to benefit Hope House of Hospitality.
“This month, I’m working with others at Interiors Market in Fondren to donate the sale of original artworks to Hope House of Hospitality, a non-profit that’s been around since 1985. Hope House, located on Northside Drive in Jackson, serves as a free home-away-from-home for cancer patients,” said Ingram.
“I’m so very grateful to live in a community with convenient access to excellent health care,” Ingram said. “I was able to leave work for radiation treatments during my off-period and return to work to finish my school day. I know that there are plenty of cancer patients who do not have the luxury of living so close to Metro-Jackson’s hospitals.”
The “Think Pink” open house at Interiors Market will be held the evening of Thursday, October 20, at 5. Purchases of art or donations during the open house will go to Hope House of Hospitality.
