Sharing one campus means so much to the JA family. Yesterday, Book Buddies, a pairing of sixth graders and first graders, enjoyed the sunshine while conducting interviews. Sixth graders queried their first grade counterparts, using questions prepared in advance. First graders responded, gaining practice on how to speak about their likes and dislikes, their ambitions, and their opinions.
Book Buddy meetings throughout the semester will yield compositions that sixth graders write and illustrate about their buddies. Full of imagination, these books become precious keepsakes. The time spent together enriches students’ lives with friendship and fond memories.
Special programs such as Book Buddies and Alpha and Omega, which pairs kindergartners and seniors, easily exist at JA because children study within walking distance of one another. Once introduced early in the school year, the Alpha and Omega pairs meet periodically for the remainder of the year to talk, read books together, share snacks, and play games.
Students relish spending time together and seeing the world from their buddies’ perspectives. These programs are greatly anticipated by students at JA.
