Last Friday, organizations and individuals throughout our nation paused to commemorate those who lost their lives in the devastating terrorist attacks of 2001. Current JA students were born into a world continuing to wrestle with the wake of the attacks, and have never waited at the gate to see a loved one off on a flight. We visited three Middle School classrooms to see different ways of observing Patriot Day.
The changes involved in moving to a new school often raise challenges and lead to growth. At Jackson Academy, the community seeks to minimize the difficulties of adjusting to a new school while celebrating the change that happens in all of us when we embrace new opportunities.
Students who wish to pursue the Jernberg Scholarship, which recognizes superior academic excellence and citizenship, may register beginning September 15. A registration link with instructions will be provided in the September 15 Tuesday Raider.
An interest explored or a skill developed while at JA often leads graduates to a career that fits precisely with their gifts. Six JA alumni from California to New York recently shared a bit about their career choices and how JA influenced their paths.
JA has entered its first full semester with distance learning as an option. Faculty members and students reflected this week on how they have adapted to distance learning.
Each year, the Trent Lott Leadership Institute for Rising Ninth Graders accepts 50 students from the state of Mississippi. In 2020, three of those students were from JA. Blair Wilson, Red Deaton, and Benjamin Watson were nominated in December of 2019 and earned their place in the program through a two-part application process that focused on their leadership backgrounds and aspirations.
Same concepts, new style. That’s what our kindergarten through fourth-grade students discovered in their math classes when they returned to school last week.
Jackson Academy is delighted to welcome students back to campus beginning tomorrow, with K3 Meet Me in the morning and Upper School attending the traditional half day on Wednesday. All grades will be on campus starting Thursday. We also welcome students who are returning through JA’s distance learning option.
The Class of 2020 gathered one last time beneath a stunning sunset to celebrate their long-awaited graduation at the Brickyard July 30.
