Jackson Academy Head of School Jack Milne announced this morning that Lance Pogue has accepted the call to become the school’s next head football coach, following last week’s announcement by current Head Football Coach Larry Weems to his players that he would not be returning for the 2020-21 school year.
Jackson Academy had a lot of guests from the North Pole on campus last week! Welcoming students and families to school in morning carpool Tuesday through Friday were Mr. and Mrs. Claus and a troupe of reindeer, elves, Christmas trees, gifts wrapped and ready, and a few snowmen who braved the warm Mississippi weather. Elsa and Anna even came from Arendelle. Smiles lit the faces of everyone in carpool line – students, parents, and greeters alike. It was truly a magical way to launch the holiday season at JA!
Last Friday, third grade students dressed up as characters from Laura Ingalls Wilder’s book Little House in the Big Woods and performed in the Performing Arts Center. Ingalls books have influenced many avid readers for generations, including the students at Jackson Academy.
JA volleyball was recognized this past week by the Clarion-Ledger for All State team selections and Coach of the Year. Earlier in November, MAIS named JA players to the All State team and as Player of the Year. At the team banquet, varsity and junior varsity team records were recognized and individual awards were presented.
Azaria McDowell and Steven Chustz have been named Jackson Academy’s School Winners in the Heisman High School Scholarship competition! The Heisman High School Scholarship program recognizes scholar-athletes who perform with excellence in the classroom, on the field, and in their communities.
Youth Leadership Jackson has selected Jackson Academy sophomores Anna Claire Bush and Annalee Willson for the organization’s annual program.
Experienced public relations professionals at a communications conference I recently attended wrestled with the topic of incivility. Their task was to determine what they could do as communicators about the rise of incivility, which is often at the forefront of daily experiences on social media.
“We believe Apple Distinguished Schools are some of the most innovative schools in the world,” begins the Apple Distinguished School website. “They’re centers of leadership and educational excellence that demonstrate our vision of exemplary learning environments.”
Apple has designated Jackson Academy as an Apple Distinguished School for the fourth time, first in 2013, then again in 2015, 2017, and 2019. JA is among a small number of schools in 34 countries to receive the honor.
